The Church is a Mother we can Trust
Sunday May 13, 2018
Sunday May 13, 2018
When we look into our mother’s eyes for the first time, we see her love and learn to trust that she is will protect and guide us through life. In the story of the man born blind found in the Gospel of John 9.1-38, God’s healing is revealed in our ability to see and believe in His Truth. Many in the Gospel refused to believe, just as many today work tirelessly to deceive us into not trusting our own eyes, but the Church is a mother we can trust to teach us the truth.

We’re not Alone
Sunday Apr 29, 2018
Sunday Apr 29, 2018
Ever since Adam and Eve, God has known that we cannot find Him by ourselves. We cannot be healed by ourselves. When a man was lying next to the Pool at Bethesda sick for thirty-eight years, he believed he was all alone without anyone to lift him up, but he was never alone. We are not alone. We have God and His Church to lift us up and help us be healed.

Does it really matter if Jesus Died?
Sunday Apr 22, 2018
Sunday Apr 22, 2018
So many Christians believe that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead. In the first few days after His resurrection, so many believed that He had died, they found it impossible to believe He was alive again. After all, He died on the holiest day of the year, in the most important city of His people, in front of the largest crowds. EVERYONE saw that He was dead, and that’s just how God wanted it. Once everyone believed He was dead, then when they saw Him alive again, they would finally believe that He was God.

Go Forth
Monday Apr 16, 2018
Monday Apr 16, 2018
On the Sunday of Thomas, the eighth day of Pascha, we hear God say to His Disciples, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” (Matthew 28.19) We also hear God say, “Blessed are those who do not see and yet believe.” (John 20.29) Shortly before His Passion Christ also prayed for “those who will believe in Me through their word.” (John 17.20) He was speaking about us. We have heard the report of Christ’s resurrection and we have believed without seeing. Now it’s our turn to go forth and tell others what we have heard, so they can be blessed by God.

The Archangel Gabriel announced to the Virgin Mary that she would give birth to God. There was only one condition. She had to say yes. We must say yes. The choice is ours to make.

The Ladder to Heaven
Sunday Mar 18, 2018
Sunday Mar 18, 2018
On the Fourth Sunday of Great Lent the Church commemorates Saint John of the Ladder, who received his name for the book he wrote about ascending the ladder to heaven. The first step, where if we are honest with ourselves we spend our entire life, is Renouncing the World. Saint John wasn’t the first to suggest this. Christ Himself said we must first deny ourselves before following Him. The Gospel reading this Sunday (Mark 9.17-31) speaks about how only prayer and fasting will be enough to get us through the most difficult challenges to our faith. When our faith is weak, we are strengthened by prayer and fasting. Step-by-step we can find our way to heaven.

The Hardest Part of Being a Christian
Sunday Mar 11, 2018
Sunday Mar 11, 2018
As we enter the fourth week of Great Lent, it is always good to be reminded that the Christian life is a struggle. The hardest part isn’t the fasting, nor the prayers, nor attending Church. It isn’t even avoiding sin. The hardest part of being a Christian doesn’t even have anything to do with our behavior is sinful or not, but how we react to how other behave. Everyone has free will, and if God doesn’t force people to act in a certain way, neither can we.

Our Job is to Make Room
Sunday Mar 04, 2018
Sunday Mar 04, 2018
On the Second Sunday of Great Lent, the Church brings our attention to a miracle and lesson for our soul. In Mark 2.1-12, we hear about the healing of the Paralytic who was brought by four friends to see Jesus. Since the house was filled past the front door, they cut a hole in the roof and lowered the man down to see Jesus. The Gospel tells us when Jesus saw their faith, he healed the man. Just as these four men, it is our responsibility to bring others to Christ, so they can hear Him and see Him. Then they can be healed. Our Church may be filled, but it is our job to make room for them.

That truth, verified through the presence of Holy Icons, is the source of great joy, that we share with our friends and family.
